A message from Michael E. Engh, S.J., President, Santa Clara University:

Dear Members of the SCU Community,

With a heavy heart I send the news that one of our third year law students, Luciana Manriquez, died yesterday in a tragic car accident. Luci was from Chino, CA. As a community that supports its members in times of joy and in times of sorrow, we join with Luci’s family and friends in prayer and offer consolation amidst the pain of great loss.

While we mourn Luci’s passing, we also thank God for the gift of her life. We will remember Luci at a candlelight vigil this evening, June 26, at 7:00 p.m. in the Mission Church, and celebrate her life at the noon Mass tomorrow, June 27, also in the Mission Church.   Gathering as a community offers us the chance to pray for Luci, offer support to her family and console one another in our grief.

Memorial Services for Luci also will be held in Pomona, CA, on Tuesday, July 2, at 1:00 pm at:

Todd Memorial Chapel
570 North Garey Ave.
Pomona, CA 91767

Members of Campus Ministry, the Counseling Center and the Office of Law Student Services in the Law School will be available in the coming days to assist those seeking comfort and support.

For those who wish to send notes to the family, condolences may be sent to:

Manriquez Family
13550 Marsh Avenue
Chino, CA 91710

May the peace that Luci will find among the saints turn the pain of loss into a sense of peace for her family and all who grieve for her. Please keep Luci and her family in your prayers.

Michael E. Engh, S.J.
President
