CABL President Linnea Willis ’02, Congresswoman Barbara Lee (CABL Lifetime Achievement Award), and Professor Margalynne Armstrong and Deborah Moss-West ’94 (CABL Public Interest Award)

On Saturday, April 30, 2016,  the Santa Clara University School of Law Center for Social Justice and Public Service received the California Association of Black Lawyers’ (“CABL”) 2016 Public Interest Award at the 39th Annual CABL Conference. Santa Clara Law professor and Katharine & George Alexander Community Law Center Executive Director Deborah Moss-West was present to receive the award.

Since its inception, CABL has provided leadership in eradicating racism, ensuring  justice within the legal system, securing African-American judicial appointments and building the professional capacity of African-American lawyers and judges in the great State of California.  CABL is an affiliate of the National Bar Association and is the only statewide legal professional organization which represents the interests of African-American attorneys, judges, law professors, and law students in the State of California.

CABL President Linnea WIllis ’02, Professor Margalynne Armstrong and Deborah Moss-West ’94 (CABL Public Interest Award), and Andrew Houston, President of the Charles Houston Bar Association.

The conference, with the theme of “Champions of Justice: Through Faith, Perseverance and Commitment,” celebrated CABL’s year of achievement and honor outstanding attorneys and judges as well as those individuals and corporations who have made significant contributions to the community.  Past speakers and honorees of this conference include Danny Glover, John Burris, James Heiting, Honorable Candace Cooper, Johnnie L. Cochran, Willie Brown, Timothy Simon, Governor Jerry Brown, Honorable Napoleon Jones, Honorable Saundra Brown Armstrong, Honorable William Murray Jr., Honorable Vance Raye, the Equal Justice Society, The Bar Association of San Francisco, Tony West, and The Boys & Girls Clubs of Oakland.
