The Innocence Network released its 2011 Report today. Network members exonerated 21 people nationwide this year who served a combined total of 265 years in prison for crimes they did not commit.

Illinois prosecutor to retire early after making "inappropriate" comments

Lake County, Illinois prosecutor Michael Mermel will retire in January. Mermel lost the support of many county officials after making "inappropriate" comments to the media about the continued prosecution of cases where the DNA does not match the defendant.

New police protocols in San Francisco could help witnesses ID criminals!

Kudos to new SF Police Chief Greg Suhr who announced their
adoption of sequential lineups - in which the suspects are shown to the
witness one at a time, as opposed to all at once - to reduce mistaken
eyewitness identifications. The change will take place January 1st.
