2013 Award Recipients:

Stuart FeldmanMedia Award: Stuart Feldman, Law & Order:
Special Victims Unit

Stuart Feldman, director, writer and actor, will be accepting the award on behalf of the cast and crew of this crime drama created by Dick Wolf. Mr. Feldman collaborated with Warren Leight in writing the SVU episode “Justice Denied,” which explores the devastating aftermath of a false confession.


James DonatoPro Bono Award: Shearman & Sterling LLP
Shearman & Sterling LLP's litigation team, headed by James Donato in the firm's San Francisco office, will be honored for dedicating hundreds of pro bono hours and resources in their tenacious pursuit of justice on behalf of an innocent client.

 


Franky CarrilloFreedom Award: Francisco “Franky” Carrillo, Jr.
Francisco “Franky” Carrillo, Jr., an NCIP client who spent nearly 20 years in prison for a murder he did not commit. Convicted at the age of 16 based primarily on mistaken eyewitness identification, Mr. Carrillo always maintained his innocence. His conviction was reversed in March 2011 after his legal team uncovered evidence of his innocence. Mr. Carrillo will accept this award on behalf of all exonerees.


Jeff Rosen and David AngelJustice Award: Santa Clara County District Attorney Jeff Rosen and Assistant District Attorney David Angel
They are honored for their leadership in pursuing truth and justice in Santa Clara County and the State of California. The Santa Clara DA’s office has focused on implementing criminal justice reforms to improve the integrity and accuracy of the system while reducing the risk of wrongful conviction. Mr. Rosen was elected Santa Clara County District Attorney in 2010, reinstated the Santa Clara County’s Conviction Integrity Unit, and appointed Mr. Angel as the Special Assistant District Attorney in charge of Conviction Integrity.
