Student Animal Legal Defense Fund (SALDF)

The Student Animal Legal Defense Fund (SALDF) seeks to raise the profile of the field of animal law and educate students and the community on the cruelty that animals face everyday, from the evils of factory farming to criminal animal abuse that goes unprosecuted.

Our main purpose is to create a system where animals are free from suffering.  This entails humane slaughter, humane treatment and conditions while alive, and being free from physical abuse.

We are affiliated with the Animal Legal Defense Fund (ALDF) and as such we have made a promise to uphold their mission: To Protect the lives and advance the interest of animals through the legal system.

Mission Statement:

The Student Animal Legal Defense Fund, an organization under the Student Body Association of Santa Clara University School of Law, shall use its resources to:

Engage and educate the community on legal issues affecting animal rights, advance the interests and well-being of animals through outreach and fundraising, build a local community where students can share and expand their interest in humane treatment for animals, and to make positive changes in the lives of local animals.
