*Associate Justice of the Oregon Supreme Court*

The Honorable Robert D. “Skip” Durham has been an Associate Justice of the Oregon Supreme Court since 1994 and previously served on the Oregon Court of Appeals from 1991-1994.  Before becoming a judge, Durham practiced law in Eugene and Portland (1974-1991) focusing primarily on labor law, civil rights, and appellate practice in state and federal courts.  He also served as a law clerk at the Oregon Supreme Court from 1972 to 1974.


Durham hold an L.L.M. in judicial process from the University of Virginia School of Law (1998), a law degree from Santa Clara University’s School of Law (1972) and a bachelor’s degree from Whittier College (1969).  He serves on the Council on Court Procedures, the Criminal Law Committee of the Oregon Judicial Conference, the Willamette Valley Inn of Court and the Board of Directors of the Oregon Law Institute.  Durham also has served as past President of the Oregon Appellate Judges Association, on the faculty of the National Judicial College, as past Chair of the Governor’s Commission on Administrative Hearings and on the Oregon Rules of Appellate Procedure.  Durham currently chairs the Supreme Court’s Committee on Judicial Rule 4; the committee which addresses the propriety of Oregon’s rule of conduct that restricts political activity by judges.


Justice Durham also volunteers his time in support of the Classroom Law Project, the Children’s Cancer Association, and SOLV (Stop Oregon Litter and Vandalism).  Durham currently lives in Portland, Oregon with his wife, Linda.
