Why Support Us?

We are a non-profit organization, as defined by our 501(c)(3) status. Our dual mission is to provide free legal services to the underserved in Santa Clara County while educating Santa Clara University law students in accordance to the highest standards. We have been doing this for more than 15 years.

As a non-profit organization, we depend on a number of financial sources to cover our operational budget, which today stands at nearly $1 million. Every year, we must apply for and secure funding from the following sources, among others:

  • State, county and city grants
  • Foundation grants
  • Cy pres awards
  • KGACLC attorneys’ fees
  • Contributions from individuals
  • Financial support from the SCU School of Law

During any financial crisis, non-profit organizations like the Community Law Center take the brunt of the severe cuts imposed by an almost automatic drop in local government and private funds, donor contributions and other sources of money.

This year, all of income categories are cumulatively down by $250,000 – that’s 25% of our entire budget! Although we’re reducing costs wherever we can, our savings are simply not enough to offset our deficit.

Please help us keep our doors open to the many needs of our community.  Donate now!
