Designate us as a "Cy pres" recipient…

The KGACLC welcomes your nominations for cy pres awards. Cy pres (meaning "as close to as possible”, in Latin) awards allow unclaimed settlement funds from class-action suits to be distributed to organizations that are most likely to benefit or pursue the interests of the class. You, as an attorney, can nominate the KGACLC for Cy pres awards.

The KGACLC has a long-standing reputation as an effective advocate for the working poor in the areas of:

Cy pres awards will fund direct services to KGACLC’s low-income clients with limited to no access to legal representation or education.

What sets us apart?

The KGACLC is an ideal candidate for Cy pres awards, given its central role as a community advocate and as a springboard to countless law students who take its clinical courses every year. The Community Law Center leverages the evolving skills of law students, who work under the close supervision of experienced attorneys to provide free legal services. This model achieves two goals:

  1. It allows law students to receive excellent training in the handling of cases involving real clients, which in turns allows them to become better attorneys, and
  1. it provides very low income clients with high-quality legal representation that they would not be able to afford otherwise.

By leveraging and utilizing the skills of law students, the KGACLC creates a multiplying effect that is efficient, cost-effective and which allows it to see more clients than a regular legal services program that is solely staffed by attorneys. At the same time, the KGACLC experience encourages legal professionals to consider a career serving the public interest. Many of our graduates remain committed to providing pro bono services throughout their legal career.
