Advice Clinic Opportunities
Overview
There are three different Advice Clinic courses (Summer Session offers one or two). You may only enroll in one each semester, but you may enroll in a different Advice Clinic course in a subsequent semester with the supervising attorney’s permission.
You should select the course based on your availability to provide counseling at the times the particular Advice Clinic is scheduled. See the Schedule under "Our Services – Advice Clinics" for an idea of when the various clinics are held.
You are expected to attend each of the clinics in the particular practice area. For example, the Worker’s Rights clinic is held each Tuesday evening beginning at 5:45. Because of the number of clinics involved in that practice area, the students enrolled receive 2 units of credit.
In the other Advice Clinics, students receive 1 unit of credit because of the fewer hours required.
Students enrolled in any of the Advice Clinics must attend an all-day Saturday session at the beginning of the semester. This all-day session accounts for ½ an academic unit. (Students earn one academic unit for every 15 hours of classroom instruction.)
Students then put in 25 hours at the Advice Clinic of their choice (with the exception of the Workers’ Rights Advice Clinic) to earn the additional ½ unit. (Students earn 1 clinical unit for every 50 hours of clinic time.)
In the Workers’ Rights Advice Clinic, students put in additional classroom and clinic hours in order to earn a total of 2 units of credit.
The courses are as follows:
