The program in Singapore consists of a three-week, four-unit course, which may be taken independently of an internship. The course in Southeast Asian Legal Systems is a fascinating look at the intersection of business and human rights in this multi-faceted and vibrant economy. The Singapore course is a pre-requisite for internships in Singapore, Cambodia, Vietnam, and India.

Hong Kong's legal, business, social and cultural environment integrates the unique culture of China with a very Western approach. Ideal for students who want to study business and foreign trade in Hong Kong and China while engaging in a comparative study of Chinese, British, U.S. and Australian legal systems.

The core three-week, 4-unit class introduces students to the Japanese legal system and explores current issues in international trade and intellectual property law. Students may elect to take a 1-unit class in Japanese patent and copyright law. The optional classes are conducted in the evenings and are frequently done in conjunction with an internship in Tokyo.

Australia: Sydney

Sydney, Australia (June 4 - June 22, 2012) 3 units
International Refugee and Immigration Protection Law


Australia is a major destination country for the world-wide movement of refugees. Our course in Sydney focuses on global refugee and migration issues - the protection of individuals fleeing persecution and other forms of harm. We will explore the relief provided under international, Australian, and U.S. law for refugees and victims of trafficking and other forms of persecution. We engage in a practical approach through work on simulated cases, which complements our discussion of materials on the avenues of relief for victims. In addition, we will hear presentations from and visit institutions in Australia providing services and representation to refugees and victims of human trafficking.

San Jose, Costa Rica (May 21 - June 15, 2012) 4 units

Home of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights, San Jose offers an ideal location for courses in human rights. We offer Spanish language instruction and a cultural immersion program at no additional charge.
Spanish Language Class
While all classes are taught in English, students in this program will be enrolled in a Spanish language class (at no additional charge).

Students should make their own housing arrangements. Several suggestions options, including home living are available on the Costa Rica program website.

This cutting-edge course examines patent, trademark, and copyright laws of Western Europe, as well as the European and international systems for intellectual property protection with some comparison to the United States. The Geneva classes offer an unsurpassed opportunity for students of human rights. Students take classes in public international, human rights, humanitarian and refugee law. (5 units)

The Oxford program allows applicants to select a single subject in which they will receive a weekly tutorial. This is based on Oxford's traditional tutorial method of instruction. In addition, students attend a weekly seminar on English legal system. There is an optional lecture course offered by Florida State University.

The Hague

The Hague, Netherlands (June 3 - June 15, 2012) 2 units
This two-week seminar at the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia allows students to spend extended periods observing actual proceedings of the Tribunal. Procedure and trial tactics are analyzed, giving students an opportunity of a lifetime to learn about criminal justice, trial advocacy, and comparative and international law.
