Santa Clara University will host Yulia Marushevska, the young woman whose viral video “I am a Ukrainian” had 7M hits. Filmmaker Ben Moses (Good Morning, Vietnam; Whisper to a Roar) is touring with Yulia and they are speaking about “Why Do Ordinary People Get Involved in Revolutions?”

Yulia started out as an ordinary university student who wanted to join others to create change in her country. She wound up becoming more and more involved by working in the hospitals, bringing firewood and warm food for the cold nights on Kyiv’s Independence Square and generally helping out in every way she could. Ultimately, she decided that she wanted to make a public announcement about the cause she was working for – democracy in Ukraine – and Ben helped her to record and distribute her message. The video took off after that and now has exceeded 7,600,000 views.
