The International Human Rights Clinic at Santa Clara Law would like to congratulate its Advisory Board member Almudena Bernabeu on an important victory related to the 1989 massacre of six Jesuit priests, their housekeeper and her daughter in El Salvador. Last week, a federal judge in Boston sentenced former Colonel Inocente Orlando Montano to 21 months in a federal prison for immigration fraud and perjury.  Montano was one of the four high commanders of the Salvadoran military who was indicted by the Spanish National Court for the 1989 massacre. This sentence sets the stage for his extradition to Spain where he would be the first top ranking military officer to stand trial for the killings.
