LL.M. Application Requirements
Eligibility
We welcome applicants who have either
- A law degree from a law school approved by the American Bar Association, or
- A law degree from a law school, not approved by the American Bar Association, but accredited by the State of California and:
- Graduated in the upper one half of their class, and
- Admitted to practice law in any United States jurisdiction.
- A degree in law from a non-U.S. educational institution that is accredited by the appropriate authority in that country
- Graduated in the upper one half of their law-school class, or
- Demonstrated above average or superior academic performance, or, alternatively, work experience, post graduate education, or standardized test, which demonstrate the ability to undertake advanced legal studies.

- 2 Letters of Recommendation (strongly recommended, not required)
- $75 Application Fee (non-refundable)
- Official TOEFL or IELTS scores (for non-native English speakers only)

Application Deadlines
Fall (August) admissions: May 1 (DEADLINE EXTENDED TO JUNE 1)
Spring (January) admissions: December 1
REMINDER: Applications and all required supporting documentation must be received by the deadline.
New Student Orientation
LL.M. students will need to attend orientation activities prior to or during the first week of classes. Dates and locations of orientation meetings will be announced in June via email for Fall entering students. Spring entering students should expect orientation information within the month of November.
Class Information
- Fall 2012 classes begin on Monday, August 13, 2012.
- LL.M. in United States Law students begin classes on Thursday, July 11, 2012 with the Introduction to U.S. Law course immediately preceding the Fall semester.
- Spring 2013 classes begin on Monday, January 14, 2013.
- LL.M. students are required to complete all graduate requirements by the end of two academic years from the date of matriculation.
- Any special requests with regard to extending the time permitted to complete the LL.M. program must be made in writing to the Graduate Legal Studies Program Manager.
