James Yoon


Biography

James Yoon is a partner in Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati's litigation department. James' practice focuses on intellectual property litigation and counseling. In addition, he serves on the firm's Policy Committee and the firm's Business Development Committee.

 

James has more than 15 years of experience as an intellectual property litigator and counselor. He has litigated over 50 patent cases and has tried numerous cases in federal and state courts. In addition, he has tried numerous cases at the International Trade Commission.

 

James has an active IP counseling practice. He has advised over 40 companies on IP issues in transactions ranging from patent licensing and asset purchase agreements to initial public offerings (IPOs) and corporate mergers and acquisitions. James is frequently involved in IP risk assessments and valuations.

 

James is a member of the committee that developed the original and the revised Model Patent Jury Instructions for the Northern District of California. He is a lecturer at Stanford Law School and an adjunct professor at Santa Clara University School of Law, as well as a columnist on patent law and litigation for the ABTL Report of the Northern California Chapter of the Association of Business Trial Lawyers (ABTL).

 

In 2009 and 2010, James was named a "Super Lawyer" in the field of Intellectual Property Litigation by Law & Politics magazine. In 2006, Bay Area Lawyer Magazine named James one of the "Top Lawyers in the Bay Area" for Intellectual Property law.

 

Prior to joining the firm, James served as a law clerk to Chief Judge Alan C. Kay in the United States District Court for the District of Hawaii. He was also an electrical engineer for the General Motors Corporation, where he worked for many different operations, including the General Motors Technological Center (Warren, MI), Opel Motors (Russelsheim, Germany), Vauxhall Motors (Luton, England), and GM's Cadillac Assembly Plant (Detroit, Michigan).
