Ruth Silver Taube
After receiving her M.A. degree, Ruth Silver Taube taught English at Njala University College in Sierra Leone, West Africa. Involvement in the union movement including terms as President of Machinists Local 547 and Business Representative for Service Employees International Union Local 535 led her to law school. Upon graduating from law school, she clerked for the Honorable Ronald M. Whyte, District Court Judge of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California in San Jose. She is currently a partner in the law firm of Silver & Taube specializing in ERISA litigation and mediation and was formerly an Associate Attorney at the law firm of Cotchett, Illston & Pitre. She has worked for the United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission in the San Francisco District Office as a Federal Mediator where she mediated employment law disputes and conducted technical assistance training programs, and she is currently on the mediation roster of the United States Department of Justice, Civil Rights Division for Americans with Disabilities Act cases. She has mediated over 500 cases involving employment discrimination and employment disputes. Ruth Silver Taube is an Adjunct Professor at the University of San Francisco School of Law where she co-teaches a clinical class on Mediation of Employment Law Disputes. She has guest lectured on ERISA, employment law, and mediation at Stanford University School of Law, Hastings College of Law, the Santa Clara County Bar Association, the Santa Cruz County Women Lawyers Association, the San Francisco County Bar Association, the National Bar Association, the National Association of Unemployment Insurance Appellate Boards, and Lorman Education Services, and she is a volunteer Supervising Attorney at the Workers Rights Clinic conducted at Santa Clara University School of Law by the Legal Aid Society of San Francisco's Employment Law Center. She is a member of the California Bar, the National Employment Lawyers' Association's ERISA Subcommittee, and the California Employment Lawyers Association, and she is admitted to practice in California state and federal courts.
