Nicholas Emanuel

Director of the Externship Program; Assistant Clinical Professor of Law

Nicholas Emanuel is an Assistant Clinical Professor and Director of the Externship Program at Santa Clara Law. He teaches a variety of courses, which have included Remedies, Torts, Appellate Advocacy, and Advanced Legal Writing. As Director of the Externship Program, Nick helps Santa Clara students earn credits toward graduation for their work in the field at one of Silicon Valley’s many industry leading legal employers.

Nick is a former judicial attorney for the California Court of Appeal, having spent six years as Senior Appellate Court Attorney for the Sixth District Court of Appeal in San Jose. He was also previously in private practice for more than a decade, focusing on civil rights litigation and civil appeals. His appellate cases resulted in multiple published opinions that established new law in California.

He is admitted to practice in all California state courts; the United States District Court for the Northern and Central Districts of California; and the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.

Nick is the author of the casebook Remedies: Basic Principles, Authorities, and Problems (Carolina Academic Press, 2022).
