Biography

Present: United States Magistrate Judge, San Jose

Preside over a wide variety of civil and criminal matters at the U. S. District Court, Northern District of California.

2001 to 2002: Independent ADR Provider, Los Gatos.

Mediator, arbitrator, special master, and discovery referee. Specialized in employment, trade secret, and all types of business and commercial claims.

2000 to 2001: Mediation Works, San Jose.

Founder and Managing Director of a Silicon Valley mediation service (19 mediators).

1969 to 1999: Hoge, Fenton, Jones, and Appel, San Jose.

Litigator in State and Federal courts with emphasis on intellectual property, complex torts, employment, and business disputes. Tried approximately 50 cases.

Also, wrote approximately 100 appeals and original writ proceedings. Argued frequently before the intermediate California appellate courts, once before the Ninth Circuit, and three times before the California Supreme Court. Appellate counsel on 25 published opinions.
