Courtney Shaw Huizar
Legal Analysis, Research & Writing Instructor
Courtney S. Huizar joined the Santa Clara University School of Law faculty in 2010. She graduated magna cum laude from Duke University in 2000. During college, she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and served as a teaching assistant for an introductory public policy course.
Courtney graduated with distinction from Stanford Law School in 2003. During law school, she served as an executive editor for the Stanford Law Review, was a semi-finalist in the Kirkwood Moot Court competition, and received the Hilmer Oehlmann, Jr. award for outstanding research and writing skills.
After graduating from law school, Courtney spent a year clerking for Hon. Vaughn R. Walker (ret.), former United States District Judge for the Northern District of California. She then practiced civil litigation for about six years, first with Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe and then with Coblentz, Patch, Duffy & Bass (both in San Francisco).
In addition to teaching at Santa Clara Law, Courtney is also a volunteer attorney coach for the Ruth Asawa San Francisco School of the Arts High School’s mock trial team. The award-winning School of the Arts team won the San Francisco County mock trial championship tournament in 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011, and finished second in the California state mock trial championship tournament in 2010.
