Professor Berwald has been an Administrative Law Judge for the State of California for the past 25 years. He presides in hearings relating to unemployment, disability and tax matters. He also trains and mentors new ALJs. Prior to becoming an ALJ, he was Executive Director and Senior Staff Attorney at legal services programs in Connecticut, Arizona and California and was a Reginald Heber Smith Fellow. He graduated from the University of Connecticut Law School and Union College. Judge Berwald has been a member of the adjunct faculty since 1990, teaching employment discrimination and employment law.
