Privacy Around the World

An esteemed group of guest speakers will share their perspectives on privacy in a country or region they know well. Co-sponsored by Mozilla, the High Tech Law Institute, and the Ethics Center.

Data privacy and security issues, laws and regulations are changing at a rapid pace around the world. In the last 10 years particularly, new laws and regulations around privacy or security have increased on all continents. Guest panelists listed below will address the privacy issue in a country or region they know well.

Lydia de la Torre is well-versed in Latin American privacy issues and has plenty of practical experience and wisdom to share, having served as Privacy Counsel at both PayPal and eBay.  She is an SCU graduate.

Elena Elkina, who will address Russian privacy issues, is known for her entrepreneurial approach in leveraging privacy to drive business performance. She uses her data protection skills with 15+ years of legal experience to build disruptive technologies that will design and shape our future.

Professor Anna Han, Santa Clara Law, specializes in the areas of Chinese law, corporate law, startup businesses, and technology licensing. She has also served as the director of the law school’s Center for Global Law and Policy.

Tarun Krishnakumar is an attorney with Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas and Co. in New Delhi where he specializes on issues relating to technology, regulation, and public policy. He is currently on sabbatical from the firm and is a fellow with the in-house legal team at the Wikimedia Foundation. He has previously worked with institutions including the Berkman Center, CIS Bangalore, and the Bucerius Centre for Transnational Law and Technology.

Mark Webber, an international tech and internet lawyer, is the US managing partner at Fieldfisher; he co-authored the UK chapter of Global Security and Privacy Law (published by Wolters Kluwer).

Paola Zeni is an international privacy lawyer, veteran of the information security industry, who has been working for years on privacy in Europe and in the US. She has a LLM from Santa Clara University.
