Camelia-SimoiuSpeaker:
Camelia Simoiu, Computational Policy Law, Stanford University

Camelia Simoiu is a PhD candidate at Stanford in the Management Science & Engineering Department at Stanford University. After collecting traffic stop data from >20 states, she and her team investigated racial disparities on a variety of outcomes (stops, citations, searches, arrests), and the effect of marijuana legalization on traffic stops and vehicle searches. Legalization significantly decreased the fraction of stops that resulted in a search for drivers of all race groups. It therefore decreased absolute racial disparities but not relative disparities.
