Course Description:

This course aims to build upon students’ core knowledge of the First Amendment of the US Constitution by focusing in-depth on: 1) Analysis of recent US Supreme Court case law concerning the Speech and Religion Clauses; 2) Discussions of selected topics of current debate concerning government, religion, and speech; 3) Interaction with noted lawyers in key First Amendment areas of practice; and 4) Strategies to distill complex First Amendment doctrine as preparation for the California bar examination.

Required: Consistent attendance and participation; preparation of ungraded bar practice questions; final paper. Prerequisite: Constitutional Law I and II.
