Thurgood Marshall Civil Rights Scholarship Fund
The Thurgood Marshall Scholarship enables public interest-minded law students to pursue their career objectives. Without the Thurgood Marshall Scholarship, I would have been forced to work during my second-year of law school. Instead, the Scholarship enabled me to focus on my legal studies and to perform community service through Fresh Lifelines for Youth and to execute my duties as President of the Black Law Students Association. It also reaffirmed by commitment to public interest law. Too often, the financial considerations associated with attending law school causes public interest-minded law students to give up our dreams. When I received this scholarship, I was reminded my work in the public sector has worth and is valued by society, and the legal profession.
-Katrina Logan, class of 2008
This scholarship was re-established by a group of law alumni, current law students and law faculty, representing the diverse ethnic social groups that Justice Marshall worked diligently to protect throughout his career as a lawyer and a jurist. The scholarship is awarded to an entering law student who has demonstrated commitment to equality, inclusion and social justice.
