Thanks to everyone who participated in the First Annual Closing
Argument Competition!  Everyone did an excellent job, and the final
decision was very close.  I am writing to announce the four
semi-finalists of the competition.  I hope all of you will join me in
congratulating them and cheering them on during the Semi-Final rounds
this Friday in the Moot Court Room.

Semi-Final Round 1, 6pm, Friday, Oct. 20:

Also congratulate Pouya Ziapour, our 5th place finisher in an extremely
close race.  In the event that one of our Semi-Finalists is unable to
compete, Pouya will fill that individual’s place in the Semi-Final
Round.

The two Finalists will be announced at 7pm in the Moot Court Room (on
Friday, following the Semi-Final Rounds), and the Final Round will
commence at 7:30pm in the Moot Court Room.  Immediately following the
final round we will have a reception and awards ceremony in the Strong
Commons Room.  Everyone is invited and encouraged to attend and watch
the Semi-Final and Final Rounds and to join us for the reception.

PROCEDURES:
•You MUST have a current ABA Student Membership # to compete.  Please sign
up now; turnaround to get your # may take a few days.
•Every competitor is responsible for time-keeping.  Please bring a timer
or watch.
•You may bring any props and notes into the competition.
•Deadline to enter competition--Fri Oct 13 @ 5pm.

FORMAT: Every competitor gets a total of 20 min:  15 min for negotiating
and 5 min for self evaluation

Negotiating: Scoring/judging standards will be sent to every competitor
once they sign up for a time slot.

Self Evaluation: Answer the following questions: (1) "In reflecting on the
entire negotiation, if you faced a similar situation tomorrow, what would
you do the same and what would you do differently?" (2) "How well did your
strategy work in relation to the outcome?" In addition, you may explain to
the judges why you chose a particular negotiation approach or tactic.
