Message from the Provost: Announcement of Search Committee for the Dean of the School of Law
November 06, 2012 at 1:12 PM

Dear students:

I am pleased to announce that the search committee to recruit the next dean of the School of Law has been constituted. I thank the following members of the committee for their their generosity in serving on behalf of the Law School and the University:
Brad Joondeph, Professor of Law, Search Committee Chair
Kerry Macintosh, Professor of Law
Colleen Chien, Assistant Professor of Law
Al Hammond, Professor of Law, Associate Dean of Faculty Development
Linda Starr, Legal Director, Northern California Innocence Project and Associate Clinical Professor
Susan Erwin, Senior Assistant Dean
Grant Atkinson, 3rd-yr. Law Student, President of the Student Bar Association
Bill Rewak, S.J., Chancellor and former President
Ted Biagini, Alumnus

A search consultant will facilitate the search process and help Santa Clara build a strong and diverse applicant pool.

The search committee will formulate a profile and ad for the Law School dean position, actively work with the search consultant to seek nominations, carefully screen the pool of candidates, conduct a series of preliminary interviews with those designated as semifinalists, and help select a set of finalists for campus interviews. The on-campus interviews will give faculty, students and staff the opportunity to meet the finalists and provide feedback to the search committee.

Upon completion of the campus interviews, the committee will transmit to me an unranked list of up to three top candidates along with the strengths and weaknesses of each candidate. I will then make a recommendation to the President, who in turn appoints the new dean. We expect the new dean will be announced this spring with an anticipated start date sometime this summer.

Thank you, in advance, for your participation in the process to help select and recruit the next dean of the School of Law.

Sincerely,

Dennis C. Jacobs
