Dear Faculty, Staff and Students:

Today was a day of education on how to respond to an earthquake. Everyone will receive a notice via the SCU Emergency Response System. 

In the event of an earthquake the immediate response by Faculty, Staff and Students should be:

Earthquake:

• If indoors:
* Remain where you are and take cover under a heavy desk or table. (Since 1994, taking cover in doorways has been discouraged.)
* If in a hallway, sit against the wall with your back against it.
* Be prepared to respond to the electricity going out when alarms and fire sprinklers are activated. (Evacuation to designated areas as shown on the evacuation maps in your building.

• If outdoors:
* Move to an open area and stand clear of buildings, electrical/telephone poles, overhead wires and flying glass.
* Do not attempt to re-enter buildings until you are advised by the proper authorities.

You will receive a message from the SCU Campus Alert system with instructions on how to proceed.

The SCU Campus Alert mass notification system is the primary means of rapidly communicating emergency information to our Campus community. If you are currently enrolled in SCU Campus Alert, please verify that your contact information is up to date by visiting the attached link in eCampus. If you are not enrolled in our campus alert system, please do so by visiting eCampus. The SCU Campus Alert system sends a voicemessage, text and/or email to multiple phone numbers and email addresses that you have designated.

Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the evacuation points for the buildings you frequent. The Law School points are located in the Alameda Mall directly outside of the Heafey Library.
