SFTLA: Effective Communication Strategies for Women
Learn how to:
• Have confidence while presenting your case
• Stay in control of the courtroom
• Learn what can you do when the judge defers to opposing counsel
• Make your record
• Learn effective speaking strategies to win your case
• Workshop: We will practice arguments to get feedback on your own personal mannerisms and argument strategies. Feel free to bring your own, or we will use SFTLA samples.

With Featured Speakers:
Barbara Figari Equality Lawyers, LLP (Chair) received her B.A., magna cum laude, in Politics and Government from Illinois State University in 2004. She received her J.D. cum laude from the University of Minnesota Law School in May 2007, with a concentration in labor and employment law. Ms. Figari has successfully represented numerous individuals in employment cases against some of the largest companies in the nation.
Kathryn Dickson, Dickson Levy Vinick Burrell and Hyams, LLP repeatedly recognized as one of California’s top employment litigators, Kathryn is committed to representing the entire spectrum from entry-level workers to top-level executives. Honors include recognition as a Northern California “Superlawyer” in employment law, consistent listing among the “Top 50 Women Lawyers in Northern California” and the “Top 100 Lawyers in Northern California,” which includes attorneys from all fields of law.
Monique Olivier, Duckworth Peters Lebowitz Olivier LLP received her J.D. (Order of the Coif) from the U.C. Davis King Hall School of Law and her B.A. from Boston College. She is admitted to practice law in the states of California and Massachusetts, the U.S. Supreme Court, and the federal trial and appellate courts throughout California. Monique is a frequent lecturer on class action and consumer protection issues.
Deborah Biron, Speech Coach principal of The Speaking Bridge, Ms. Biron specializes in transforming peoples’ lives by improving their ability to communicate. She has B.A. degrees in Drama and Speech from San Francisco State University and is a member of SAG and AFTRA. Deborah also leads a women’s confidence-building group and teaches two communication skills courses—Speech and Presentation Skills and Using Your Voice as a Sales Tool—in the Humanities Department at UC Berkeley Extension.
