Bar Association of San Francisco Seeks Staff Attorney

The Volunteer Legal Services Program of The Bar Association of San Francisco (VLSP) is seeking a Staff Attorney to work at our ideally-located office in the Financial District.
VLSP provides free legal services to low-income and indigent people in San Francisco, as well as the non-profits that serve them, by utilizing private attorneys to handle individual pro bono cases. VLSP's Community Organization Representation Project (CORP) provides legal assistance and educational workshops to non-profit community-based organizations that serve low-income and indigent communities in a range of transactional business law matters.
The Position:
This position will report to CORP's Supervising Attorney. This Staff Attorney position requires a general understanding of both poverty law and corporate/non-profit law, ideally with an emphasis in one or more of the following areas of law: real estate, employment, tax, finance, non-profit, business, and community economic development issues. Responsibilities include: training and supervising pro bono attorneys in a variety of cases and projects; reviewing the merit of potential client cases; resolving client problems and complaints; updating and developing substantive training manuals, workshop materials, and relevant portions of VLSP's websites; supervising interns; collaborating with other community agencies and law firms; and helping to recruit pro bono attorneys.
Requirements:
Candidates must be members of the California Bar in good standing. Knowledge of/experience in real estate, employment, tax, finance, non-profit and business, community economic development issues preferable. The candidate should have excellent written and oral communication skills, and be able to effectively manage projects, make quick decisions and handle a high volume of activity. Candidates should have a demonstrated commitment to assisting disadvantaged communities.
