The January 2010 ABA Journal includes a brief article on the Rule of Law Index: James Podgers, [Your ABA] Survey Says…Study measures adherence to rule of law by U.S. and other nations.
The Index measures factors and subfactors within four broad principles: government accountability; clear, publicized, stable and fair laws that protect fundamental rights; accessible, fair and efficient process; and access to justice. Data for the Index, compiled from a general population poll and an experts’ questionnaire, were presented at the Second World Justice Forum in Vienna. A preliminary version of The Rule of Law Index is available at The World Justice Project website.
The website’s left-hand column contains an executive summary and profiles of the 35 countries surveyed. The website’s right-hand column links to news articles about the Rule of Law Index and the November 2009 World Justice Forum II. The Podgers article is also available on Westlaw (96-JAN ABAJ 61) and on LexisNexis (96 A.B.A.J. 61).
The 2010 Rule of Law Index is expected to cover 70 countries.
