Two recent articles in the New York Times focus on how people learn. Can exercise make kids smarter? by Gretchen Reynolds discusses experiments conducted at the University of Illinois indicating that fitter children perform better on cognitive tests. Forget what you know about good study habits by Benedict Carey summarizes cognitive science studies illustrating that varying the location in which one studies and varying the type of material studied in one sitting improves retention. So does frequent testing!
