Change in Asylum Policy for Abused Spouses

The New York Times is reporting today that the Obama administration has recommended asylum for Rody Alvarado, a Guatemalan women who endured domestic violence in Guatemala and has been trying since 1995 to secure asylum in the United States.

Ms. Alvarado has been represented by Karen Musalo, Director of the Center for Gender and Women’s Studies at UC Hastings College of Law. Additional information about the Alvarado case is available at the Center’s website.
