Two exams scheduled back to back; i.e., one exam at 6:00 p.m. and another at 9:00 a.m. the next morning
Two exams on the same day

At noon on Feb. 17, in B-142, Ilona Turner from NCLR is coming to talk about the progress of the Prop 8 trial (Perry v. Schwarzenegger -- the trial contesting the California amendment that banned marriage equality for all citizens in California). She's going to discuss what's happened in the trial so far, what the arguments on both sides have been, how the judge seems to be leaning, and what the ramifications of this trial are likely to be -- including the possibility of this question going to the Supreme Court. We're pretty lucky to have her come and speak for us, so please come and join us!

Help a Law Student: One Less Worry Contest

Beginning in March of this year, nonprofit graduate loan specialist Access Group has asked law students from across the nation to submit a four-minute video chronicling their real-life law school worries for its "One Less Worry" contest. After five months and out of a possible eighty-eight submissions, one of Santa Clara Law's own students, Paul Christopher E. Torio (3L), has been selected as one of ten finalists eligible to win the grand prize: a $10,000 scholarship.

We've recently received quite a few complaints about smokers standing waaay too close to the entrances of campus buildings (specifically Banann Hall). Just wanted to send out a reminder that the rule is that you must stay at least 25 ft. away from the entrance of all university buildings. We understand that it is cold outside and soon to be rainy but we have to ask you to step back. Thank you for your understanding.

Volunteer for the Benefit for Justice - Meeting August 30

***The BENEFIT FOR JUSTICE: Friday, September 15 (5:30 --11 p.m.)***
More than 300 law school alumni, students, faculty and staff, and public interest and social justice advocates and supporters will attend the Benefit for Justice this fall. The event includes dinner, a live and online auction and dancing. It’s a great way to network and have fun!
The Benefit for Justice raises money for SCU Law Public Interest Endowment programs. The Endowment funds public interest and social justice scholarships, summer fellowships, and debt repayment assistance for graduates practicing public interest and social justice law.
VOLUNTEER for the BENEFIT FOR JUSTICE
Students who volunteer three hours or more at the event get in half-price!

Demolition of Orradre Library

Demolition of the Orradre Library building will begin Monday July 24 at 8:00 am. To answer your first question, there will be no explosives involved in this demolition, just very large mechanical devices! Work will start on the northwest corner of the building, near the Alameda Mall and the Mechanical Engineering building.
Perhaps the best place to view the action in person is the Benson Plaza. Some of the green canvas covering the construction fence will be removed on that side to allow a better view. Later, some viewing windows will be cut in the canvas so you can walk by and watch construction activities.
The tentative timeline for demolition and construction is:
Demolition and excavation: July 2006 * September 2006
Foundation: September 2006 * December 2006
Steel erection: December 2006 * February 2007
Exterior and roof: February 2007 * May 2007
Interior: June 2007 * February 2008
Furniture/landscape: March 2008 * May 2008
Move-in: June 2008 * July 2008
Grand opening: August/September 2008
