Students may not be paid for work in the field placement.

How to Find an Externship

There are several places to find externships in this broad category. First, you can search for externships via the Symplicity job site and apply online. Also, you may contact Law Career Services for specific information about a desired company. LCS also recommends these Job Search Resources to aide in searching for an externship. Finally, many companies and firms have their own individual websites that may offer externship opportunities.

Alternatively, if you know lawyers or alumni in your community, you may reach out to them about externing in their office. Check out the Civil & High Tech Law Externship Handbook for more information and utilize the SCU Civil Externship Sponsor List for contacts.

How to Register

Upon acceptance of an offer from an organization or firm, the student should fill out the required Civil & High Tech Law Externship Form and submit it to the Director of Externships in the APD Office, Bannan 230. Please see the Timeline for suggested deadlines.

Upon approval, the student should register for LAW 590 (for first time placements) or LAW 597 (for subsequent placements). The student must also register and attend the Externship Seminar LAW 705 (for first time placements) or LAW 706/707 (for subsequent placement).
