Nothing in the Commercial Code requires the secured party to respond directly to an inquiry by a searcher.  However, U.C.C. 9-210 requires the secured party to respond in defined ways to defined requests for information from the debtor.  U.C.C. 9-625(f) and (g) sanction the secured party for failure to comply with this duty.  The debtor can then provide that information to the searcher.  If an interested person cannot obtain desired information from the secured party or the debtor, or is not satisfied with the sufficiency or accuracy of information obtained, it can refrain from taking actions putting itself at risk.
