Here we see the value of a guarantee. A creditor is barred by the bankruptcy automatic stay from attempting to enforce the debt against the debtor in bankruptcy (Anco). As a result of the bankruptcy, the bank may receive only pennies on the dollar from the bankruptcy trustee on account of Anco's unsecured debt to the bank. However, the bank is not barred by the automatic stay in Anco's bankruptcy from attempting to enforce the debt against a guarantor (Wozab) who is not in bankruptcy.
