Here the parties have used vocabulary imprecisely.  One does not secure a debt with UCC [financing] statement.  Rather, one secures a debt with collateral through a security agreement and files a UCC financing statement in the appropriate governmental office to perfect a security interest (in certain kinds of personal property).
